I'd recommend both of the Placido Domingo recordings; one with Cheryl Studer, the other with Renata Scotto. The one with Scotto as Desdemona is cheap, too. Maybe $20, but no libretto. No worries, you can print one online easy enough. Both are excellent recordings to start with and have great sound quality.
Probably my favorite is Toscanini conducting his NBC S.O. w/ Ramon Vinay as Otello and Herva Nelli as Desdemona. Nobody could match that voice!
As part of the group you're entitled to free rips from my library and a t-shirt.

Second one please! All this adoration is getting a bit weird, ha...
Yes, an outing is mandatory. Just as soon as this pressure cooker is over we need to meet for some okonomiyaki and cold beer.

I just remembered a Mahler moment!
I used to work on DVD audios and I worked on the production part of the Zubin Mehta Mahler DVD and then I also worked on the Carmina Burana DVD audio.

Mahler moments are definitely encouraged. Not a big Mehta fan, though.

Huntington Library and gardens is one of my favorite places in LA. I want to go. Have you seen the new Chinese garden yet?
