I just started into what would be the 2nd book last night. It's been going well so far.

Also, WRT the Kindle DRM stuff I mentioned above, I've read conflicting reports on it. But, it's a moot point for me as I've made a conscious effort to head to bed earlier than I normally would so I can read for 30mins to an hour most nights.

If you read the reviews for the kindle edition, there are conflicting reports on this. Doesn't matter. I'm not going to pay $15 for the convenience when I've already paid for the book. If it were $10, I might have. But, I am enjoying just reading the book itself, too.

Also, I mentioned this to another friend, but I don't recall there being so much straight-up sex in a Murakami book. My friend said there's been sex in his prior titles but that they've been more of the surreal variety.

Stephen King, Haruki Murakami cited for Bad Sex in Fiction

Quote:
[Her breasts] seemed to be virtually uninfluenced by the force of gravity, the nipples turned beautifully upward, like a vine’s new tendrils seeking sunlight. (1Q84 by Haruki Murakami)
Haha!

Finished 1Q84 last night. Not his best work. But, I think it's better than "Kafka on the Shore". Definitely better than "After Dark".

I think I might need to re-read all of Murakami's stuff. It's been too long since I'd read his previous stuff. Need to familarize myself with them again.

Walked into Kinokuniya bookstore today and found a handsome-looking box set for IQ84. Funny how this looks much better for packaging than the flimsy dust jacket on the hard-bound edition. **harrumph**

I liked the hardcover version, too. Though, I removed the dust jacket and replaced it with a DIY paper one while I was reading it.

i had a long wait for the kindle version from my library and just finished it. this was my first ever murakami book and i knew nothing of it going in (i like that i try to avoid spoilers in general). i liked the characters but not the book overall. about half way though is where i started to not like it but i wanted to finish since it was my first murakami book so eventually i was able to finish it.
