Moonrise Kingdom
no thread on this, im shocked.
saw on friday night and it was visually amazing and for me anyhow, was relieved anderson finally put more focus on the actual story which i think he got away from since rushmore but i just cant shake this feeling of how forcefully "whimsy" or "quirky" his stuff is now. i liked this better than everything since rushmore (havent seen mr fox) but there's something a bit too ridiculous about his movies that has me tuning out even though there were some touching parts to this one. there such huge critical reception to this (94% on tomatoes i think) but i still long for the lower key whimsy/quirk and more grounded story/characters of rushmore and bottlerocket. but yeah, it was visually amazing for sure. every shot, the color, placement, etc.. this shits just too nerdy for me though. |

For some reason it's not coming out until a few weeks from now here in Michigan but I do intend to see it.
I was actually kind of surprised by the high rotten tomatoes rating. |

After one disappointment after another, Darjeleeng Limited being the breaking point, I gave Wes Anderson another shot with Fantastic Mr Fox. That alone got me expecting perhaps better things for Moonrise Kingdom.
It's been making a theatrical run on some theaters locally, but I'm thinking of waiting for it to go on wide release.
