The key to being a successful (ALIVE) rider is to look out for the other guy, meaning other cars and trucks...they are more likely to cause injury or death more so than anything you might do yourself.

taking the motorcycle safety course, assuming they are standardized in most states, is very helpful. they should cover a few techniques that will help you on the road.

it is dangerous but you can reduce some of the risks by wearing a helmet and other gear. also drive safely and not under the influence. like the others are saying, you will need to drive defensively.

Here....Michigan law requires you to take a course before you can get a cycle permit.
