I received the import copies of Everything But the Girl's reissues of "Eden" and "Idlewild" in the mail yesterday. So far, I've only listened to about 2/3rds of "Idlewild" but the remastering job sounds very nice.

Are the instrument separations much clearer? I have the original CD presses of Baby the Stars Shine Bright onward. Funny how you had to turn up the volume knob for some of those albums. I really hope the decay on all the reverbed tracks are more pronounced too. Loved that about their records.

I thought so.

I've kind of cherry-picked which EBTG releases I've owned throughout their career. I haven't listened to this new version of "Eden" yet. But, with "Idlewild", it's definitely a much cleaner sound than the original CD pressing which I have, too.

FWIW, these are the EBTG releases I own:

Eden
Everything But The Girl
Idlewild
Home Movies: The Best Of Everything But The Girl
Amplified Heart

I never really got into their more dancier releases.

The other thing I should mention is that these are really nicely packaged. Basically hardcover books about the same dimensions as a jewel case. Some brief comments about what was going on with the band at the time of the recording of the respective album.

They talk a bit more about doing these reissues at http://thequietus.com/articles/09091...girl-interview

Strangely enough, EBTG's dancier releases, especially Walking Wounded (still my favorite out of all of their albums) was my gateway into the world of electronic music.

Picking up my favorites out of the Blur 21 reissues. So far I've got Parklife, Blur, and 13. Next on the list would be The Great Escape and Modern Life Is Rubbish. Still on the fence about picking up Leisure even if There's No Other Way is one of my all-time favorites.

Nice.

My latest purchase was actually an iPod Shuffle. I set it up to sync automatically out of what I've got labeled as "Metal" for the genre.

All the material that's on the respective second discs on the Blur reissues are available on Spotify if you want to check them out, joetron.

I also realized last weekend that the Blur Best Of CD is on its last legs--laser rot has poked little holes in the silver. It was the CD that got me into their music so it's hard to accept that.
