Boon, one quick request while you're out there: please support the businesses that are around the neighborhood (Molly Moon's Ice Cream, Via Tribunali Pizza, Oddfellow's Cafe, etc.) when you're around the area.

Some of the neighborhood businesses (not necessarily those mentioned above, they seem cool with CHBP) have worried that the CHBP has been taking traffic away from them when those roads are closed and replaced by fencing and music stages. It's a way to keep good graces between the event and the local merchants.

I hope the weekend's going to be sweet for y'all. Which day/s of the event are you going to?

hey man, sorry, only getting back online now after the weekend festivities...are you talking about those right in the festival grounds? i take it the actual bars within the grounds obviously dont have any problems with raking it the beverag sales during the shindig....round of 7 drinks @ $32 at one, told the bartender they just be giving that shit away and he asked where i was from and when i said vancouver, he was like "oh, yeah." haha....we didnt actully eat though within the festival but did go to the ayuttiya and another cafe (st. john's?) on pike and del mar/guaymas/dominos (open late ;p).....

we went to the fest on sat for twin shadow (confirmed now as one of my favs), grimes, major lazer....we stayed the silver cloud up the street which is the only way to go so we could walk out a couple blocks and recharge.....our groceries dont sell booze so grabbing a 1.75L bottle of vodka at the QFC on the way back totally hits the spot.

i must have said it to my friends like every 10 min but no way in heeell vancouver would ever let something like the CHBP happen...esp when major lazer was on from about 1030-1145, it really felt like we were away from home....on the flip, it seemed like security were on the hunt for ganj every now and then? thats the only thing that would pass without care back home. ;p

had a dam blast, them kind of block parties on the street and not so huge festivals are really cool esp when you can get a hotel 2 blocks away...we are def planning to come back next year

I heard this year was good based on blog posts read over the weekend. It looked like Neko Case ended up not finishing one of her songs because she was way too distracted laughing at someone dressed in an eagle costume. I would've relished to see that in person.

Yeah, I heard Major Lazer killed it.

Maybe you and your crew can come down for the Decibel Festival this September? Orbital will be playing a show at The Paramount. I'm waiting for the organizers to release tickets for Matthew Dear's show at Neumos. I've been dying to check out how he does it live.

Yeah, heard about Decibel, i think its similar to the New Forms Festival we have here which is also in Sept. Its mostly minimalist tech/dub/etc kind of stuff? Not super in those genres but it sounds like the right kind of festival thats not super huge but just right? Saw some Decibel lineup in that Neumos venue but we didnt even make it inside there for Diplo's after set, it filled capacity pretty early i think (as we suspected though). Major Lazer was yeah, bonkers out on the main stage though. Not super into them particularly but that was fun as hell.

We went to some 3 floored small club/cafe a bit later in the night, 1 block east of the festival entrance street. Real tiny 2nd floor with butterflies in jars and a wooden type attic on the 3rd floor which i thought was gonna cave thru when people were jumping around. Then we ended up at Neighbors. ;p Dig that alley entrance, so street haha....felt nice to go thru an alley without having to avoid the needles too.

Is the Paramount that one downtown that XX and Dirty Projectors are playing at? Walked by it. Also went to Leroy Menswear.

Hey Goner or anyone....we're making our CHBP travel plans right now for this year's, do you recall at what point they release the day lineups and also single day tickets? Only the 3 day passes are available right now and they have not released the lineups per day. I guess probably in a few weeks? Planning to come down for 2 nights again but not sure which nights to book yet because of that. Thanks yos.

I'm also wondering what the day-to-day lineup is going to look like since I don't do the 3-day marathon for that event either. It might be sometime in May before you get each day's schedule and the single day ticket availability.

I do hope the bands from the Italians Do It Better stable get a Saturday schedule (just a personal wish). Still need to see Chromatics and Glass Candy in a live setting.

Yo mang! Yeah, i think Chromatics is one of the only real acts i really wanna see out of the bunch, i just had some much fun last year with the overall set up and its just much cheaper to come down to this by car then to fly to Coachella or Vegas for whoever's stag. The main thing is being able to book the near by accomodations but i think it will be ok, we booked the same place last year a bit after the day to day lineups were released.

On the actual music front last year, Twin Shadow was just becoming one of my favs then and the sound was real good for their set that it was pretty memorable. I went to see him a few months later here in Vancouver but the sound was absolute shite (the venue is notorious for that) so it makes last year's fest all the more memorable. Not hugely into Major Lazer but their set was bananas fun. Suppose this year, its about the trap for that kind of set.

Anyhow, guess i'll just monitor the site daily. Maybe we can meet up too!

Sure thing. It's always better to compare notes with like-minded fans.
