Yeah, and don't get snookered by the "you need a new air filter" scam either!

Well, they called and said the light directly relates to the processor. But they're going to see if it's just the motherboard, try that first, and if that doesn't do it, the processor. They're going to order both parts, and I'll only have to pay for whichever solution sticks. It'll be around 4 to 500 to fix. Oh well. I don't have time to get a second opinion, I have 3 projects I need to finish this month, need the computer back as soon as possible.

Could be worse, you could've sprung for a new Retina MBP and had it bust and you didn't pay for Apple Care

^ It might be worse. Some guy in an editor's Facebook group said the same thing happened to him, that it was a kernel panic, and that they could never quite fix it so they gave him a new computer. I don't think I'll be that lucky. But reading up on kernel panics, that shit could be just about anything.

You'd think a company like Apple would be able to think of a way to cram in a discrete graphics card in the 13" MBP. It's almost a deal breaker for me.

Would love to throw the Macbook on a cooling pad, HDMI it to my bedroom tv and play some Skyrim and stuff.

So Mac Hollywood Noho fixed it. It was the board minus the processor, which was find according to them. It was about 400 dollars to fix, so not terrible, but my brake light came on in my car as I was driving to pick it up. I picked a bad time to do a lot of pro bono editing.

It was a big day in Apple land today. The new iMac looks nice. But I'm stoked on the iPad mini. I think from now on I'll stick to Apple for smaller devices and Windows for desktops. I don't like how Apple's computers are increasingly not upgradeable by users.

Read windows 8 interface is horrendous on desktop, seems they targeted mobile devices but didn't translate well to desktop.

Same thought here with regard to smaller iDevices. I just recently got an iPhone and managed to load up quite a few apps so I could sketch out some music ideas and plug an electric guitar in every once in a while too. Fender's AmpliTube app was so worth downloading for $15. I could even use the 59 Bassman amp module to plug a 4-string and lay some bottom end tracks.

Having an iPad mini could help as a repository if it's installed with Garageband and a few softsynth apps, maybe Sampletank or something like it.

sounds like one of those hybrid disk/solid state drives. but Apple has special software that automatically stores files in the optimal place, supposedly, so you don't have to decide where to save stuff.
