I may have to go see Ted Leo and Against Me! when they swing over to town on what I assume is a "get out and vote" kind of show. They hit Seattle about a week before election day.

Grand Rapids is lame, it's really hard to like the shit that comes through my town. And if a famous act comes through like Iron & Wine or something, it sells out in a blink.

I'm not gonna pay money to see:
http://www.myspace.com/ladispute or some equally wack band

Iron & Wine is not a rock show.

Don't know what to tell you.

Start a band maybe.

Altho I've found it was a lot easier to start a band in the 90s when a lot of small bands were getting signed because it was easy for people to pretend they weren't trying, then when it did happen they could be like "whut, we were just doin this cause we were waiting for the laundry to get done one day and like wow". Now you really ARE waiting for the laundry to get done and there's little chance of even making your quarters back. Therefore, fun is not to be had. People suck sometimes. Or move.

Actually it's kinda funny now that I think about it. Instead of being like "we're gonna make it!" And then people eventually getting disillusioned. Everbody was like, "we're not even trying to make it". Then when they didn't "make it" after a couple years (in which time almost no band "makes it") everyone got super bitter. So fake. haha.

haha, Iron & Wine is as ROCK as rock can get man! But nah, I was just using that as an example you know. I'm over it though, one day, when I leave Michigan things will start to kick more ass.

There is a slight history of some rock bands coming from the Michigan area...

you don't always have to move that far is all. You could just be looking in the wrong places.
