Huh, I knew the old Jeep Grand Wagoneers were built in my hometown but didn't know they were also assembled in Tehran.

I was just watching a documentary called FUEL that discussed ‘bio-mass’ derived fuel.

I’d like to take a moment and say that I hate having to sit through Global Warming propaganda, Moby can suck my balls (that fucker's even in the trailer), I don't like "proof by computer graphics" and I hate emotionally manipulative films that first guilt you into thinking you’re a bad person and then offer a solution that they pose as the only real solution so that you can only really do what they tell you to do because they’re the only ones who get it. That said FUEL did have its good points. It’s not a total waste.

Anyway;

One thing that sort of leapt out at me while I was watching the movie is that there was al this emphasis on getting fuel for our cars and whatnot like it’s a really big deal and we totally need cars. I’ve lived without a car now for four or five years. The last three have been with a bike or two. These have been some of the best years of my life – in part because of the absence of a car. I still like cars, mind you. I will always have a hard-on for Miatas, BMW 3 series, NSX, et cetera. I’m not saying otherwise, but I did find it funny that a portion of the documentary was all about keeping commuters in cars. Which is funny because commuters have to live far away because they can’t afford housing which necessitates cars which means huge travel times which means less time for making / growing food which means dependence on prepared food which means a need for more money which means a need for that job twenty miles away which means a long commute which means a need for a car . . . I think you see where this is going.

Dammit, I want a Miata. But I also think that it’s a huge fucking toy. Our lives shouldn’t be organized around a godamn toy.

This FUEL movie kinda says, "Yeah, let's keep our cars even though they're totally unnatural and destructive. We'll just move the destruction from this one area into another area." One thing the FUEL documentary doesn't discuss is that fuel production via bio-mass will still be to some degree toxic and that toxicity will remain in the areas currently blighted by the existing toxicity. Having trees suck up pullutants so that you can process them and then dump those same pollutants in the same area as crude pollutants is really stupid. That and, my personal favorite, advocating trees that "suck up carbon" so you can burn them will result in the same thing: carbon in the air. Global Warming is bullshit, but if you say carbon being burned is bad and then talk about how to burn carbon you're a fucking retard.

I have no idea why I just typed everything above. I’m going to let it all go. Biomass good. Crude oil bad. Two wheels good. Four wheels bad.

THE END.

No, I think that you make a good point about all of these alternative fuel sources for our cars. It's meant to keep the automakers in business and us in cars. And, really, if a particular bio-fuel really took off, Big Oil would buy up the companies and get their mitts in that business, too.

I think the Caprice Classic wagon we had when I was a kid had a Fischer body. I remember the badge on one of the door sills.

I do wonder if only 10% of cars were electric could our grid support it.

And what are we going to do with all the dead batteries?
