greetings, all. long time no see. neku, i got your email. i'm still uncertain as to whether i'll be free for dinner next wednesday. my cousin is visiting from the philippines, and i'm not sure if she'll be here until then. but if she's gone, i should be available to eat and shit shoot with you guys. i'll keep you posted. the downtown area would be most convenient. asian food would be nice too. that restaurant we ate at over the summer was some good eatin'. also, is anyone going to the smokey and miho show at the mercury lounge? i noticed they were playing on the 15th from emp's list.

is it her love for sausages, or the fact that every nyc gr meet is a sausage fest?

oooh! thanks for the invite. i am seeing conan o'brien earlier in the day, but free wednesday evening.

if this can be re-scheduled for later in the week, that would be ideal, but wednesday still works.

what bank should i use?

i have yet to open an account here, and am wondering what you guys recommend.

- i've had two friends tell me to go with HSBC
- also told that i should go with local regional banks like BANK OF NY, GREEN BANK (?), and some new bank called E-something
- emilie told me to use CITIBANK

here's my stipulations:
- i doubt i'll have enough to cover a minimum ($1000 or more, or even less)
- i want an atm / debit card; i don't really use checks
- i would like decent access to ATM machines for that bank. if only availble in the city, that's fine.
- i want as little fees as possible

any feedback is very welcome.
thanks!

Re: what bank should i use?

open a hsbc account

heres why:

get a student account, 200 checking min, 200 savings min, unlimited checking, 3 savings transactions a month.

they never check if you graduated, I've been out of college for more than 4 years.

oh yeah they have more locations then any other bank in nyc

go with NETBANK.com.

no minimum (or if there is one, it's really low, like $50), they give you your first box of checks, and they pay YOU interest to have an account there.

the only thing is, is that you never really have a physical bank to go to and you mail your deposits using their pre-paid self-addressed envelopes. i have direct deposit set up with them, so it's no prob, but even when i've had to mail my stuff, i've never had problems. and like most banks and credit cards these days, you can monitor your account online.

the netbank ATM card can only be used at certain machines tho, and generally it costs $1.50 to use them. i have only found one or two chase ATMs where the fee is waived.

been using NETBANK.com for over a year and never had a problem, same is true for my roommie who has had an account with them for a few years now.

Went to the Cloister Museum in fort washington uptown this weekend, way uptown. I liked it, It was like getting out of the city with the trees and hudson river view. after that we ate at a Chinese-Spanish restaurant which was alright. If any of you feel central park is not peace enough, visit there.
