the sticker says 120gb?

try deleting the partition and creating a new one. 9gb is a bit high even if account for overhead.

1KB = 1024bytes
1MB = 1024KB
1GB = 1024MB

120GB = 111 actual gigabytes.

Manufacturers sell on 1gb = 1000mb. It's metric.

i posted this originally on G+:

i feel like i'm reasonably tech savvy, but there's something about networking problems that i just can't get my head around.. it's like i'm missing an essential piece of understanding on how networks operate

i'm trying to connect a non apple router to a non apple network because the mac i'm using doesn't have wireless capability and i didn't want to spend the $ on an apple solution..

i couldn't get it to work at work [where the mac in question is] and i'm trying to do the same thing here at home on my own network to see if i can get it working and it's completely borked.

it's getting the router to just join the network that's causing the problem..
i think i have to 'bridge' it? WDS?..

I commented a bit more on your G+ post. I do believe you're on the right track in putting the router into bridging mode.

thanks for the post!

i think i managed to get it bridged but i can't seem to get to the internet through it..

i'm not sure if it's bridged f i should be looking for my original network's SSID or for the SSID of the router?

I would assume original SSID. Bridging mode, as I understand it, should essentially act as an extender/repeater. My understanding may be completely off, though.

any bots using ATT U-Verse? How does that 250GB monthly usage work? I have no idea that there's a limit until I read the fine print.

i don't have u-verse. but unless you run torrents all day/night, you won't hit your limit. and from i've read, it's a soft limit. meaning, they won't shut you down. they'll just send you an email and tell you you've hit the "limit".

that's not bad. at least they don't shut you down or throttle you. i'd suggest getting a desktop widget or application that measures your internet usage each month.

but 250GB is pretty generous and most people won't hit the limit, unless you're running torrents all day.

Don't have U-Verse, we have Comcast but our service has a 250GB/month cap, too. With Comcast, you can sign in to your account page on their website and see where you're at in the current month as well as review past months' usage levels.

In real life, between two adults we have smartphones that are on wifi at home, two computers that are always on, an iPod Touch, an Xbox 360, PS3, and a TV that has wifi. We subscribe to Netflix and use the streaming stuff a lot. But also use Hulu, Funimation, streaming ESPN via Xbox Live, Steam, etc., we have only exceeded 100GB once in the time that we've been on a bandwidth cap. Our averages are somewhere well below that.

If you want to monitor usage yourself, you will either need a broadband router that has that feature built-in or you will need to install any monitoring widget on every client you want to track and do the calculations yourself. If you have a broadband router that can be hacked with Tomato, etc., you can go that route too.
