we had a comics/zine thread in the Breakroom. Maybe we can bring it over here? Or combine? or start anew?

Seriously, I just wanted a chance to use my new banner.
The last manga I read were the four Nausicaa collection books, and they were great, I can't reccomend them enough. I wish Miyazaki would make a "directors cut" or something of "Valley of the Wind" using the entire story in the manga.

I wasn't wild about the Lone Wolf 2100 book. The first one was OK but I didn't bother with the rest. It looked more European influenced than Manga infleunced to me.

The original is a classic but this has now been eclipsed in my estimation by Blade of the Immortal. This book is amazing and Samura's art and storytelling skills never cease to impress me.

The only new manga series I have picked up recently is Ghost in the Shell 2 - Man Machine Interface. I've got the first two issues and the full colour artwork blew me away. There's enough mecha and tech/politics to keep Shirow fans happy for years.

I also like Ryoichi Ikegami's artwork wherever I see it (Strain, Sanctuary, Crying Freeman, Mai The Psychic Girl, Samurai Crusader etc.)

I just started watching Those Who Hunt Elves. Pretty funny stuff. Nothinglike seeing elves forced to strip. OMG! Did I just type that? I am so sad.

I respectfully disagree. Lone Wolf and Cub has that touch of realism that Blade of the Immortal lacks. I did love Blade of the Immortal. I guess it's a personal preference.

I love Sanctuary and Crying Freeman as well.
I suppose the difference is that I have read the Blade saga from the beginning whereas with Lone Wolf I had only sporadic issues. I have managed to get the first three Dark Horse mini-collections now. Kamui from Eclipse was another good jidaigeki (sp?)

As usual, I'm out of it...went in to pick up the Crayon Shinchan TPB's and was blown away with how many manga series are on the shelf nowadays. I think the only long series I finished was Maison Ikkoku. But that was a while ago.

one comic i reccomend is "Vagabond" by takehiko inoue. based on the novel "musashi" about musashi and starring musashi. it's beautifully drawn and written.

two animes i reccomend are FLCL and Spirited Away. FLCL being six episodes of wall to wall innovation and hilarity. spirited away being possibly the most enchanting animated feature eva.
