That panel at the end of the issue when Haykurin realises she ought to run and then sees the Itto ryu coming in led by the huge blind guy was full of foreboding. You just knew things were going to get nasty. Samura made the torture scenes suitably horrific without being overly explicit.

I dunno how Giichi would do against Anotsu but he rules with the shades and the bald head. He's nearly as cool as Magatsu. I found it interesting that the best fighter in the saga so far is Makie Otono Tachibana from Dreamsong. This isn't your normal samurai story.
we are totally geeking out, but who cares.

Shinriiji was always one of my favorite characters, it was so obvious that he was in love with Hyakurin and so obvious that she knew it, I always loved that sub-context. It really got me when he was the first thing she asked about upon waking up. The ending to that story arc where she puts her hair on his grave almost brought a tear to my eye, it was the most satisfying ending I can think of in comics.

Makie would annihilate anybody introduced thus far in the story, if I remember correctly even Anotsu was very respectful of her skills. My ranking of the most lethal characters introduced thus far:

1. Makie
2. Anotsu
3. Geiichi
4. Shira
5. That huge poetry reciting guy from the first story arc, I forget his name right now
6. Manji

I really like how they make it pretty obvious that the main character (Manji) isn't even the best. If he wasn't immortal he would have been killed like fifteen times by now.

...and the geek shall inherit the earth

The poetry guy was called Kuroi Sabuto (a rough translation of Black Sabbath.)

I think Manji is getting lazy as he is relying on his immortality all the time. All he has to do is be persistent. Some of the Itto-Ryu guys seem to be getting complacent too. They are used to everyone being terrified of them, hence Shinriji taking them to school. They just didn't see that coming.

I did the like the bit in the last issue where the 3 guys Shira hired decide to take Manji on so he gets all his crazy weapons out and says he is tired of being hacked up so he's going to kill these jokers.

I have a suspicion that the ninja-turned-painter, Master Sori, is pretty dangerous. He hasn't fought yet but he is always calm in the face of the mayhem and bloodshed that goes on around him.

He's a bit like that little Japanese guy dressed in white in the Simpsons episode where the Mafia fight the Yakuza on the Simpsons' lawn. You just know when he gets going it's going to be cool.

Let the geeking continue!

oh hell yeah, I forgot about Master Sori. You just knew from way back in the first story arc that he was a badass, wasn't he the shogun's personal assassin or something? I think it's been hinted at. Plus he paints with blood, and like you said, never bats an eye at combat and death. I have little doubt that he will bust out his skills at some point...

picked up a limited eddition not made anymore collectible Robotech VF -1S for my fiance. It has three forms and has metal henges..it's supa tight and yes I took it out of the box.. I like to play with my toys not let them collect dust. It was roughtly around $80 bucks. Inside of it I put this : a robotech comic from 1985
which is all about the VF -1S and is volume 3.

I should be staying out of the comic book store except I want to buy some more stikfa's and a model gundam kit..those are around 100 dollars too.

Master Sori....

Oh yeah, I forgot about the blood painting thing.

I just checked the first story arc again. A bad guy has the drop on Rin but Master Sori arrives and says "A person who treats art like..like a doormat is not welcome in my house. GET OUT." Then he cuts him up. Definitely a badass.

PS evil - stikfas rule!

Hey evil - the stikfa stickers are really cool. I just have one alpha male figure at the moment but my comic shop has a knight and horse in stock. I haven't seen the samurai figures yet.

Memeishi - David Mack's Kabuki is amazing. The guy is so talented it is sickening and he draws people in realistic proportions too. How one guy can move from pen and ink to watercolours to CG art so seamlessly is mind boggling too. Rick Mays who draws the Scarab series is damn good oo.

ah, me too! (i once even entertained thoughts of getting a gally tattoo, but luckily that has fallen by the wayside, cause then i'd be a full-on geek..) although, i'm rather disappointed with the new style of drawing kishiro has been using in his recent works, such as aqua knight and Gunnm: Last Order... one of the things i liked the most about his art in the old Gunnm series was it's rough look and raw energy... now it just looks way over-produced in my feeble opinion... ah well.

yikes! i've been so out of the loop, i didn't know anything else came out... i'll have to check it out anyhow...

i LOVED gunnm because i loved the art... the lines... how sometimes things were muddled and sometimes things were simple and sometimes things were detailed... and.. well, i wasn't an art or english major, so i probably couldn't describe it in the detail it deserves...
