Mmm...it's on and off. Right now the suns out, it sprinkled this morning, and could sprinkle later. The day it poured at the Fremont festival, we went back and chilled at my place for an hour or so, then the rain cleared...sun came out...it was like a new day. So....we went out on a friend's boat in the evening...it was bootiful. It's all about layering up in Seattle when the weather is being strange and unpredictable.

i'm already looking for a raincoat.

and this is unrelated, but if anyone cares to comment: how would living in montlake be? compared to living in the u district, i mean. i could still walk to uw, and it seems like i could still catch busses to everywhere else. i guess the drawback is there don't seem to be as many stores or restaurants within walking distance.

montlake is nice. better to have a car tho, but a bike should be fine. not really that many stores in walking distance, but the park around the bridge area is super nice.

and yeah, i miss those dramatic beautiful sunsets, with the olympics too, so incredibly beautiful.

is that little thai joint still open on the ave? hehe i remember when that place first opened. nice joint to hang and watch your food being cooked when it was actually OPENED - that place had no fucking regular hours.

You'd have a scenic walk everyday - but remember, you're looking at walking in the rain quite a bit. Where are your classes at? Do you wanna be near the Ave, or in a quieter area. Parts of the U-district are a little ghetto, as with most student rental housing, but I think they're trying to construct some improvements, at least on the Ave. I believe if you're coming from Mountlake, depending on which way you go through campus...you might have a tougher walk with a few hills, but then again, you could always take the bus.

my office will be in the new cs building, which seems to be the southernmost building on the main campus. my classes will be in either the attached ee building or another one nearby (whose name i forget). i stayed in montlake when i visited, and the walk didn't seem too bad. but in new york i'm used to walking everywhere. in the rain, though, is an entirely different story.

on another note entirely: do any of you ever go to that "Yo Son!" night? what's it like? i'm definitely going to miss my friend's underground hip-hop night here. but i'm not expecting seattle to match new york in that...

There is a scene here, it's smaller. You're right it's not New York, it's not as exciting, you have less variety, and less people to scope out. You'll see the same people there every week...but I'm sure that's how it gets everywhere - even in NY. There's a few new nights besides Yo Son! that will be starting up, so don't fret. Jumbalya is another long-standing night which you'll probably dig...everyone does. If you really want to get involved and be in the know, there's a UW organization called The Show. They throw student events and I dunno what else...so you'd be 'in the know.'

haha: "the party scene is cool but then again it's all the same/you see the same faces just at different places". i'm sure that's true everywhere.

thanks again for all your answers!

Best Thai food is hidden a few doors down from Scarecrow Video - Krai Thiem. It's like next to that comedy club. Seriously underrated stuff there.

Best late night eating would probably be at the Broadway Grill which is open till 2 now. Beats fucking Denny's or IHOP.

I miss the rain. I hear it's not going to rain again here in Cali til October. I can't fucking bear it. Rain cleans things. It makes things grow.

mae phim tai just outside of pioneer square is really good for lunch. 5 bucks for a lot of food. late night at ga ga loc in chinatown is good too. theres also this egyptian falafel place just outside of pioneer square, just up the street from metzger maps (i think) that's really good.

hey, i'm here! at least until the end of august... LA was great but i never did get to karaoke, altho i got pretty close. as in, a no rae bang in k-town with overpriced beers which a certain OC bot will attest to.

so... anyone in the seattle area want to hang out?
