Well, I've finally entered the DVD world, and I don't have any criterions yet.

Criterion-- isn't that the company that decided Michael Bay was an "important" new director? So alongside Seven samurai and L'avventura we have The Rock....

Criterion was a distinguished co. in the laserdisc era for putting big, supplement-heavy pristine transfers but at big prices-- the disc for john Woo's The Killer for instance was $125, but was researched well, and put out a lot of information on the background of HK cinema found no where else in the US at the time. Robocop was an example of a better transfer with tons of extras and a dir. commentary, and the video was clean, and the audio surround PCM track was excellent. However the DVD version Criterion put out was non-anamorphic and pixelated and the audio was cut-rate thin dolby digital 2.0, 192 kilobits. Crap.

So, to me Criterion rarely meant anything on DVD, poor transfers with shitty sound. Their discs are better now, though if it's dolby digital anything it's still shitty sound.

I have
laserdisc--
Lawrence of Arabia
Dead Ringers
robocop
Yojimbo
Taxi Driver

dvd--
Seven Samurai

I heard about the press kit for Fight Club. I want it so bad. Even photocopies would be acceptable.

Criterion DVDs usually have all sorts of fancy extras n' shit. Like interviews with the stars on Bravo or whatever. I don't buy them but I rent them and watch them over the course of a few days.
