i saw it a couple weeks ago. in slow motion. a few times too.

there was a head clash so i can see why people feel that was the cause of the k.o. but busta continued and he was still going for a shoot for hendo's legs. dan pushed him to the left and stepped in with the knee to his head. after that busta was gone.

the time between the head clash and knee was really short. so its debatable what ended the fight. but i think busta wasn't stopped until the knee hit him.

GR #39: Shogun Rua, "Best Fighter," GR Awards 2005.

Guess they had to make the call before the NYE finals and Shogun was amazing this year BUT...

His win over Rogerio was a very close one, many are calling this fight of the year, but many also had Lil Nog winning this AND his win over Arona is a bit tainted since Arona basically KOed himself (like Lindland/Vitale).

Silva and Arona are rematching (for the title I think) on NYE so that will settle that but I think its premature to say that Shogun "has already surpassed" Vanderlei.

Fighter of the year will def. have to wait until the results of NYE since if Gomi wins, I think he would have clearly distinguised himself above Shogun.

If Sakurai wins, it would be the biggest comeback since Coleman won the GP but Sakurai did not light it up all year, only from this current GP on.

Fedor only fought twice this year (TK and was injured for much of it) but did finally beat Crocop and beat him at his own game (which is just insane).

George St. Pierre, though still not yet the champ, absolutely ran thru his competition this year and that included Dave Strasser, Mayhem Miller, Frank Trigg and Sean Sherk. Thats nuts. He finished all of them except Mayhem, who he bludgeoned pretty dam good.

Also, if Kid Yamamoto beats Genki Sudo on NYE, he would have beaten Uno and Sudo, 2 top LWs when Kid is a FW. He KTFO Royler Gracie too though Royler's pretty old now.

Silva still has the title and did not lose it to Arona in the GP because tournament matches arent title matches.

So Arona is fighting Silva again, this time, for the title.

if he only did san shou techniques then yeah....he would get a rude awakening. but i'm sure he'll prepare with mma training.

i need to watch some current shows. it doesn't help that the dvd releases are so old.

I think he is too late in the game to get into MMA. Yes he is a decent striker and his takedowns work well for San Shou but put a 40 year old against any top MMA fighter right now and he will get owned in Pride or UFC. I think he will just ruin his reputation than further his career by expanding into MMA arena. BTW wouldn't you think his first steps would be to stop doing San Shou and fight a real K-1 fight instead. I have been waiting for that to happen. Just sounds weird to go into MMA at 185 lbs. this late in the game.

it is a bit late. but if he's in-shape and got the moxy for it then why not. couture hasn't stopped yet (i think) and he's doing pretty good.

i think cung could do better in mma. he has a wrestling background and that hasn't been fully utilized in san shou where there isn't any ground grappling.

The major knock against him is that he fights kickboxers or whatever in those weird shan shou rules and its obvious his opponents have never fought at those rules before or have never grappled a day in their life.

If Cung Le was good enough for MMA, he'd be in MMA or would have done it long before. I doubt theres much coin to be made in SS but there is a descent bit in MMA. But now, like the other said, i'd say its too late to risk looking like shit when he already has his reputation or so-called legacy built as the best SS fighter.
