Ricardo Mayorga is pure aggression in the ring. He throws haymakers and a lot of them, and he's a lot of fun to watch. The highlight of his second fight with Vernon Forrest (which was very close, imo) was in the 4th round, I think, when Forrest hit him with a clean 1-2. Mayorga laughed at him, dropped his hands and proceeded to allow Vernon to hit him with 2 more 1-2's straight on his chin. After the fight they asked him why he did that, and he said that he wanted to show Vernon that "he hits like a sissy and he couldn't hurt me." Aside from all of the machismo, Mayorga has done a lot for his community in Managua, setting up electricity and such. His fight with Spinks is going to be interesting--it will either be a blowout for Mayorga if Spinks can't handle his power, or it will be a long and somewhat ugly fight with Mayorga chasing and Spinks running around trying to jab his way to a decision, in which case Cory might have a real chance to pull off the upset.

Kirk Johnson weighed in at 260 which is like 20 more pounds than he weighed for his last fight, when he was a fatass to begin with. Oh well. More weight means more power, right? My prediction is gonna go to shits but eh, Klitschko is bound to run into a live body who will be able to deal with his size at some point.

I like this kid Dominick Guinn who was on the last Joe Mesi HBO card, he's kinda small for a modern heavyweight but he's got pretty good skills.

What the hell ever happened to David Tua? That guy hasn't fought in ages and his next fight (supposed to be against Lamont Brewer or something like that) got called off...

didn't see it but i just read about vitali dominating last night's fight. kind of unexpected. a good win though.

they say that lennox may retire. they should rematch. lennox should actually prepare this time.

if lennox is out then vitali will probably fight sanders who knocked out the younger klitschko brother. i rather see this fight.

Kirk Johnson showed up woefully out of shape and just tried to land haymakers while the fight lasted. Vitali used his height advantage to avoid Johnson's telegraphed punches, and then he countered with straight lefts and rights. Good showing for Vitali, he impressed me with this fight.

Mesi looked good for a few rounds, but then Monte Barrett figured him out and was able to change the fight with a knockdown off a shirt left hook in the 7th round. Barrett won rounds 7-10 big and Mesi is fortunate the fight didnt go 12 or he would have been in deep. Good action fight for a hevyweight throwdown.

My picks for this Saturday:

Hopkins W12 Joppy
Mayorga W12 Spinks
Rahman W12 Ruiz
Judah KO6 Randel
Garcia vs. Simms, no pick as I have seen neither of these fighters.

I think it will be an interesting card for boxing fans as there are a lot of talented fighters on it, but I don't the matchups that make for action fights...Joppy and Hopkins are some old ass warriors, Ruiz is never in good fights, Judah might outclass his opponent, whom I've never hears of. I like Jab Zudah, by the way, in spite of what my avatar might suggest (that's a picture from Kostya Tszyu's classic second round knockout of Zab which prompted Zab to do the Knockdown Shuffle).

I am watching a short documentary about Bernard Hopkins on maxboxing.com, and they have footage of him doing some roadwork--hilarious, this guy runs like a little old lady, he legs are all locked and he just kinda shuffles forward. If I saw him running I would never think he's the middleweight champion of the world and one BAD MAN. What he did to Trinidad was one impressive hour of work.

Sapp is gonna shit in his shorts. I think 99 percent of the human populace would shit in their pants if they saw Mike Fucking Tyson standing across a squared ring from them, ready to try to take their head off when the bell rang.

I shook hands with Michael Buffer last night at a party. He's one awkward dude. Saw him talking to/smiling maniacally at some 20 year old girls later.

Michael Buffer is the "Let's get ready to rummmmmbbbbbbbbllllllllllllleeeeeeee!!!" guy.

He has two versions. The cheaper one he says rumble for a long time but if you pay more he really draws the "rumble" out to superhuman lengths. You usually hear him do the shorter "let's get ready to rumble" at, say, the UFC. At a Tyson fight or some other high profile boxing match he does the longer one.

Yeah, there's some hicky looking blonde dude now with his own signature announcement. That's probably who you're thinking of.

I'm gonna miss this weekend's PPV card with the 5 championship fights...sucks, but hopefully HBO will replay it next week.

The Mayorga fight should be exciting, and I always like watching Zab Judah and Bernard Hopkins.
