Been using my GS2 for the last couple of days. Wow, this phone is amazing.
The phone is fast and coupled with the 4G speeds, it's pretty amazing.

I'm really glad I made the jump. I can't find much fault with the phone at all other than that I keep playing with it. Even the battery life has been awesome.

Do you tend to carry your phone in your pants pocket? I think that's my biggest issue with these 4"+ screen-size devices. I don't even wear hipster jeans or anything like that. Khaki pants for me. But, it's still my biggest concern.

I carry my phone in my pants and haven't had any issues with it and I don't wear cargo pants.
I normally wear levis 514 so they aren't baggy pants either.

The phone is a little bit big, I think a 4" screen would have been good or maybe even a 4.25" screen.
I'm really happy w/ the phone though, used it a bunch yesterday while I was out and the speed is just amazing.

Good news for you guys with Galaxy S2 phones, it has been announced that ICS will arrive on your phones sometime during first quarter of next year.

These software patent wars are ridiculous.

also, Apple won a suit against HTC recently. so now HTC can't sell (certain or any?) Android phones in the US, until they either pay up or modify their phones some how.

Yeah, I saw that news the other day, too. I think HTC can still appeal that ruling and it seemed to be a rather narrow part of the patent that actually applied. But, I don't recall the details now. It's been a day or so since I read that story and I tend to forget details of things quickly.

For someone who does not want to root their phone, how long would this user typically have to stay current? Let's say I buy a Galaxy S2. Should I expect that by this time next year, I'll be locked out of the new flavor of Android, whatever it may be?

So hard to say, you'd think these new dual-core phones would have enough horsepower to run the latest and greatest OS updates/upgrades.

Anyhoo... Here's Gizmodo's latest list on the(ir) best Android apps. A few there I never knew about before.

not sure. Samsung's reason was that the single core processor can't handle ICS and Touch Wiz at the same time. i'm sure it's possible, but it will probably affect user experience negatively.

also, ICS is a major upgrade, and it's the start of google's plan to unify the OS a little more. so maybe the GS2 will have longer support? it's hard to say.

and with companies like Samsung, Sony, and LG that make a variety of consumer electronics, it's really not profitable to keep a product alive for so long. when i bought my SGS, i just assumed that Samsung would abandon it and just offer a new model to replace it. so i'm not losing any sleep over the news. still a great phone and i think it will last me another year or two, unless i decide to get something newer.
