Recent Purchases

I'm unilaterally retiring The Amoeba Purchase Thread for inclusivity's sake. Amoeba or not, tell us about your recent finds. Stories of trials and tribulations in tracking down a hard-to-find item are especially welcome.

...

On an impulse, I dropped by one of my favorite small stores, Poo-Bah Records, after work. Picked up a used 4-CD set of "Charlie Parker: The Complete Live Performances on Savoy" for $37. It covers recordings from Royal Roost 1948-1949, Carnegie Hall 1947, and Chicago 1950. Nice hard-cover book-like packaging with 59 pages of notes and photographs.

I know I totally scooped Yam on this. You snooze, you lose!

I can't listen to my DJ Signify CD. When I opened the package, the CD was streaked with glue they used to make the little sleeve...

Back to the Fetus I go tonight to get an exchange.

bummer, sorry to hear it. one of the corners of the inside cd insert came undone on mine. plus, my cd had a few tiny little nicks in it. that's my one main gripe with Lex, they really need to start including those cloth cd inserts with all their cd releases cuz my shit is always getting scratched up.

btw, new Boom Bip remix album out on Lex in May...woohoo!

Yeah, I saw that. Good thing I didn't buy that remix EP (MP3s) from the WarpMart. I saved some money!

So, continuing this saga (sort of). I emailed Lex Records about this and (surprisingly enough) got a reply back from Tom at Lex.

He said he was sorry to hear about the problem I had with the packaging and wasn't sure if it was a bad batch or what.

I told him that for the copy I currently have, I folded a slip of paper on the glued side of the sleeve to prevent any further damage but I wouldn't complain if they wanted to send me a replacemetn copy...

In any case, it was nice to get a response back that wasn't boilerplate.

I hear Tom is a pretty cool guy. I'm not sure if you knew this or not but word is that Andrew Broder will now be releasing music under his Fog guise on Lex Records. He's already done the Hymie's Basement lp so it seems like a natural step for him. plus, Lex seems to embrace the experimental music more so than Ninja Tune.

Interesting news about Andrew Broder. Truth be told, I was kinda "meh" on the first Fog album.

Just not my cup o' tea, I guess.
