Oh and check out the above link for articles and some other translated short stories.

Also there's a bunch of articles about Murakami in some academic databases such as Academic Search Premier and some others.

kingka, I do remember that Murakami thread...that was some time ago. I'll have to reread it.

lakebottom, that's a good pictorial representation of some Murakami subjects. Lot's of references to pampas grass, mouth-watering hamburger steaks (I like mine with some shredded daikon and green onion!), and cats of course.

Thanks Randall!

I didn't forget! There were a couple of other threads, actually, but they were all in other fora, and I thought this one could use a general thread for his stuff.

Question: I bought Dance, Dance, Dance NOT knowing that it was a sequal to A Wild Sheep Chase . I haven't read both yet. Can I read Dance, Dance, Dance first without having read A Wild Sheep Chase or is it something that must be read in sequence for me to understand?

I think in sequence is better, but his books are more something you experience than something you understand, so I don't think it'll be too bad if you read them out of order.

wow, finally a collection that rivals my kerouac collection.

i jumped on the murakami bandwagon after i read the wind-up bird chronicle but can't say anythin' after that impressed me.

i've only read dance dance dance and sputnik sweetheart so far. sputnik sweetheart is very adorable. dance dance dance is pretty cool, but really dragged in certain parts.

It's Coin Locker Babies on the second row on the right, right next to Shimada's Dream Messenger.

I think reading Wild Sheep Chase before Dance, Dance, Dance makes you anticipate the later more. For me, my fav is still Hardboiled. Gotta love the librarian named Kiki and the melon fragrance wearing girl.

For me Murakami's earlier works are more appealing than his later, but perhaps that's because I read them when I was more impressionable.
