Speed of Apple Intel dev systems impress developers

By AppleInsider Staff
Published: 12:45 PM EST
The speed of Mac OS X running on Intel hardware is impressing some developers who've been privy to one of Apple's first Intel-based developer transition systems.
...
"It's fast," said one developer source of Mac OS X running on Intel's Pentium processors. "Faster than [Mac OS X] on my Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5." In addition to booting Windows XP at blazing speeds, the included version of Mac OS X for Intel takes "as little as 10 seconds" to boot to the Desktop from when the Apple logo first displays on screen...

Nice...now where's the Powerbook upgrade???

I'm tired of sketching on paper at coffee shops. I'd love to pull out my Wacom + a Powerbook and go to town.

bigger i think.. apple apparently received a patent last year which had pics:

TMO SCOOP - Apple Granted Patent for Tablet Mac (w/Illustrations) [UPDATE]
by John Kheit, 5:10 PM EDT, May 10th, 2005

Apple Computer was granted a patent for an enigmatically titled "Electronic device" Tuesday, May 10th, 2005. Illustrations for the device clearly indicate it to be a tablet-style Macintosh, and patent filings specifically compare it to the "HP Compaq Tablet PC" and several other tablet machines.

The patent was filed on March 17th, 2004 (first broken by The Register in August, 2004 as noted in the comments), and granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as US Design Patent No. D504,899 on May 10, 2005.

New in the issued patent is an illustration (see Figure 9 below) that demonstrates and confirms that the device is a handheld device with a touch screen.

i dunno. i think i'll hold out until even the next gen of Powerbooks -- G4 is still great. i can't help but think that this IBM G5 chip is just being made half-assed since apple decided to go w/ intel now. what does IBM care anymore? maybe there's still yet some deeper vested interest in it for IBM though...

Loud Ass Fan

i have a single 1.6 g5 rig. Added 1G RAM. Now the damn thing is loud as hell. It used to quite down once and a while, but after i dropped in a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, the thing is loud... all. the. time. argh.

Anyone have the same problem? Or better yet, had any luck fixing it?

This is what i got from Apple.com - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300351
