isn't it pretty easy to share software? i mean, from what i've seen, you don't even need a serial number to install Mac OS, right?

Yup. The main advantage to having your own copy of OSX: if you have any hard drive problems, you can run the disk doctor stuff off of the initializing discs.

If you work in an office with macs, just "borrow" the OSX Tiger install disc for the night.

Hell yeah I did.

*rubs aching anus*

So there's no hidden feature on OS X Tiger that tries to send a message to Apple indicating it was installed "illegally?"

And can I just install it on my Jaguar 10.2.8 and will it just install everything harmlessly, without me having to reinstall software and whatnot?

TekServe has been pretty good to me.

Other than their stupid long waits.

One time my wife dropped my 2 week old powerbook. I took it there they pretty much fixed everything for free cus they had to make money off the subsidized cash from Apple for doing service.

Tiger does try to make you register, but I just put in fake info. I wouldnt do an upgrade, OS X is famous for not working properly after an upgrade.

That sucks. I don't even know why I'm dying to upgrade. I need to minimize distractions.

Will I see a big speed decrease if I upgrade to Tiger? Right now I'm running 10.2.8 on a dual 450 G4. It's practically a dinosaur at this point.

Can I use a Tiger upgrade DVD to install Tiger on my 10.2 system? Or to do a full isntall.

Basically, do I need Panther? Is a clean install possible without Panther? And upgrade from 10.2 possible without Panther?

edit: also, if I borrowed the "backup" disk that came with my friend's iMac, woudl I be able to use it to install Panther on my old Powermac G4?

I mean, does the upgrade Tiger DVD become a full install if I choose a blank hard disk to install it on?

I had a blank disk I used to use for media when editing, it has no OS on it, I'm thinking about installing it on there.

that's the impression i have about OSX. i'm still running 10.2.8.

i never upgraded to panther, i'm afraid certain oddball photo programs i use won't work properly if i do.

Forget it. I tried to install Panther and Tiger and neither of the installs worked.
