Aldous Huxley was arguably a better prophet than George Orwell.

Both had their calls and misses and I'm now thinking that they're seeing features of cyclical patterns without seeing how those patterns flow into different patterns. I actually agree with puppyfields that Huxley was slightly more "on point" in regards to things like information control and social programs. Then again, I also see similar patterns with Orwell (though his seem more dramatized in my own eyes).

Still, I know a chick who came from Eastern Europe who gave a strikingly Orwellian account (she was less into Orwell and more into art, by the by - she would know about, but be uninterested in, what is being discussed here). I think there are people who have experienced the Orwell view. We, in the U.S., have had - I assume - limited exposure to such things as Orwell described. Then again our survailence culture does seem to be ramping up.
