Removing the drive docks and screwing in the new drives was so damn simple. I don't see why it should be complicated, I mean this is the way it SHOULD be, but still a pleasant surprise.

All the wires were a fucking pain in the ass. Hooking everything back up was by far the most unpleasant part of the whole afternoon. I need to spend an hour soon and just unplug everything, use the wire tubes I bought, and make that shit clean. But finally got everything connected, put the tower beneath my table, hooked up the second monitor. Turned it on. Installed OS X on the drive in bay 2. Realized I didn't have a mini dv display adaptor. Drove to store, bought that plus a Firewire 400 to 800 adaptor.
Downloaded all the software upgrades twice, once for the Avid drive, and the other for the Final Cut drive. Damn, that shit took a long time.
Installing Final Cut Studio took a couple of hours.

Had an issue when I opened up Final Cut Pro, said my graphics card didn't support Quartz Extreme. Knew that was bullshit, went online, found a solution. Had to restart in Safe Mode, then repaired permissions in disk utility, then restarted normally. Problem solved.
Began digitizing the footage I shot on Saturday at FeralMuppet's dragon boat race.

Okay, so everything seems to be okay. Now I'm just moving music and photos over to the new system. Notice the Avid keyboard. Took the whole day to get this thing ready.

Slackerbot, the Ikea thing? Good taste. I still like it. I wish I could find a swivel for my TV though.

Sound stuff I shot at Feral Muppet's Dragon Boat race. I was into it at the beginning, gets very sloppy once The Strokes come in, and not sure if I'm going to "finish it."

The good news is that FCP didn't crash once. And I got to use a bit of Motion and Compressor.

^ Damn, there are some really bad cuts in it. Maybe I will finish the second half. Thanks, though.

Feral and Atomic around 1:13.

^ I spent more time on the first 15 seconds than the last 1:15. Was trying to reacquaint myself with FCP's motion tab. The song is Art Tatum. Not sure what the name is.

Used a Sony TRV-900. Really should get a Hi Def camera. But I really probably shouldn't. I'll compromise by wiping down the lens next time.

consumer HD videocameras are coming down in price, starting around $700. but i can't justify the cost right now. can't afford too many hobbies at the same time.

i might pick up an "HD" pocket camcorder. quality is good enough for online viewing, but not really good for anything serious.

^ Yeah, I kind of want interchangeable lenses, which immediately puts it out of my price range. Plus, I'm still not sure about what kind of extra hardware I'll need to ingest Hi Def formats.

Shit, I took it off line in case any editor friends saw it, the first 15 seconds is okay, the rest is garbage... I'll make it public again right now.
