you can make your own but there's probably a physical limit to how much stress a long seatpost can handle.

have you considered a taller frame? maybe shortening your legs?

You looking to build up a bike or pick up a complete?

I don't have the patience to buy up components, no tools, no local shop I'm friendly with, etc. Used to ride 5-6K a season (some criteriums and centuries), but this was over 12 years ago before my bike was stolen. Long way to go to get back in that shape again. Seems like for a little under $1K you get pretty decent components, but spend a bit more and you have a good bike that's upgradeable.

Also, happy bday Eddy.

Yeah, but that one is waaaay smaller and has substantially less stuff in stock. It's a difference of maybe - double.
If you were gonna go in and spend $1500, I'd say you should make the trip to Culver City for the better selection - you can still use the service dudes in the valley if it's closer to home.

I'm thinking of updating components on my s-works. The frame and forks are over 25 years old, but the thing is built like a tank and is pretty light. The wheels are so-so, Real hubs and Mavic rims, not sure if they need to replaced. Everything else I want to replace. Or maybe just get a new bike. Seems kind of shame not to do something with it though. I'd like a road bike with straight handlebars, as I don't do much trail riding. I dunno, bikes are fun.

I would say a bigger frame might be in order.

Good old Thompson makes 410, though, which is pretty big. Well over 350 could be above the insertion point. Just saying.

The only things that would be worth replacing would probably be the berrings. I would rock the shit out of an old S-WORKS frame (which I'm currently doing) with whatever I could find that was as close to original as possible. All of my current components are modern, which is too bad. I would keep it as is and spend the money on a hybrid (GIANT Rapid / SPECIALIZED Sirrus / KONA Dew) or a used road bike. With the road / hybrid you could go fast. When it rains - or if you wanted to go jumping - you'd have the S-WORKS.

Best of both worlds.
