I've braved the non-orangeness of the new lounge to say CONGRATS!!
That's such exciting news!
I agree w/ Lexi, TRY not to obsess over the baby books. The one thing I did obsess over was that website that showed you how big the baby was each week... We would say "remember when Darcy was just a poppyseed?!"
And I'm sure you'll hear it a million times, but seriously, get all the sleep you can now b/c once the baby's born you probably won't get a decent night's sleep until the baby's like 2 months old!
Feel free to pm me if you have any pregnancy questions - I still remember most of it!

Look, look at the fuck situation that occurred and understand that a man's hot semen swam all that distance to penetrate the walls of a female's egg and made babies. Fuckin' a, that's a miracle..

thanks j_simone!

how long is she going to be completely miserable?

she's been running a fever all weekend from a sinus infection and has a really bad cough now too. then her nose started bleeding. this is all being caused by how dry our house is from our furnace and is enough in itself to make her miserable. then you add being pregnant, nauseous, woozy, dizzy, tired on top of it and she's not a happy camper.

Get an evaporative (versus warm mist) humidifier to combat the dry air.

In general, most women are miserable for the first "trimester" or so of the pregnancy. Not a guarantee though. For instance, a friend was nauseous her entire pregnancy with her first kid. I don't think she had that problem the second time around, though.

Sorry to hear about the sinus infection. What makes it worse is that they (OBs and PEDS) generally recommend avoiding medications as much as possible during pregnancy with the exception of acetaminophen.

From what I remember, the first trimester was the worst. I didn't get morning sickness, but I had nausea & I was super-sensitive to smells. I was super-tired too. It got gradually better until the 2nd trimester - which was awesome. I felt great! I've heard that most women are the same. 3rd wasn't bad until the very end. Swollen feet, back pain, etc. The bloody nose thing stuck with me too - get a cool mist humidifier going to help. You'll need one for the baby anyway
Poor Mrs. ALB - tell her to take cat-naps when she can & try to snack during the day to keep her blood sugar up & drink lots of water (should help the nausea).

so we've found, joe. sucks! acetaminophen is crap.

we have the evaporative humidifier but it isn't getting the job done.

i'm gonna grab the steam kind after work and we'll use them both.

she's carrying a bag of oyster crackers around with her, lol.

she's never without her nalgene, so nothing new there.

her sense of smell is ridiculous. nothing smells good to her.

I remember when Gabi was the size of a kumquat - HA!

Even if your baby is a really good sleeper they like to switch it up on you just so you don't get use to sleeping entirely through the night...

seriously, the epidural will be your wife's BFF!

Yeah, be careful with the warm mist kind. Primarily, keep it in the middle of the room if you can (away from walls) as it will cause condensation to form.

Is it possible that you didn't buy a evaporative humidifier that's big enough for the room(s) you're using it in? We've made do with standalone humidifiers for the past couple winters. We have one for an 1800 sq ft room in our big bedroom and a smaller one in another much smaller bedroom.

But, I think we're going to have to bite the bullet and have a whole-house one installed into our forced-air heating/cooling system when we can afford it. Primarily, I'm tired of basically getting tased everytime I go to touch a light switch in our house during the winters.

Haha - it was so bad, people were calling me a bloodhound. I would smell things - like people smoking in the car in front of us on the parkway or a neighbor cooking bacon & it would make me want to puke! I had to buy new deodorant & dish soap b/c those 2 things really made me nauseous. Luckily, I don't think it lasted for very long.
oh, here's that baby growth chart thing:
http://community.thenestbaby.com/cs/...spx?MsdVisit=1

Yes, for bad nausea at work I used Lexi's sour patch kids remedy & it did work!
I know that you're supposed to only use cool mist humidifiers for babies b/c the warm kind will promote mold or other things you don't want growing.

Oh yeah, once your wife's back starts to bother her, be a good hubby & buy her a Snoogle or some sort of full body pillow to help her get comfy. Yes, you WILL get bumped off the bed as she gets bigger, but remember she's growing your baby!
