What are you making/baking right now?

My apologies if a similar thread already exists but I was just curious to see what everyone is making or baking at the moment. Pictures of your finished products would be nice too!

I just completed making "gyung dan" which is a type of Korean rice cake (dduk). I made ones with the roasted soy bean powder only (I would have made ones with mugwort powder and black sesame seeds too but I ran out of both) . Here is a picture of the results!

Right now I am baking a Banana Crumb Cake from scratch. I'm trying to go for the dry buttery pound cake consistency. We'll see how it turns out in an hour!

Probably wont get a pic since K eats them as soon as their done, but for dinner I'm making teriyaki cheese steaks. I cook steak-um or whatever premade steak things you get in teriyaki sauce with some fried onions and peppers. To finish I toast them in the over under the broiler with prov cheese.

Yay! My banana cake was a hit..well at least with my family. I was going for more of a pound cake consistency but it ended up being more airy and moist. It's buttery and I can taste the nutmeg and cinnamon. The crumb topping is a crunchy but slightly chewy texture because of the brown sugar...yum! As always in this house, no one ever waits for the cake to cool off so I think you can actually see the steam in the picture

My home made noodles from scratch. It's called "kal guk soo" in Korean which translates into "knife-cut noodles".

I boiled the noodles in an anchovy flavored broth then added fish cakes, egg drop and scallions. My noodles came out thicker than I wanted. Next time, I'll roll the dough out thinner and then cut into noodles.

Banana Crumb Cake Recipe

Preheat oven to 350F.
1/2 C. Butter (one stick of butter at room temp)
1 C. Sugar
1-1/2 C. Mashed Bananas (3 medium size bananas)
1/4 C. Sour Cream ( 1/4 cup of buttermilk is ok too)
2 Eggs
1 t. Vanilla Extract
2 C. All Purpose Flour
1-1/2 t. Baking Powder
1/2 t. Baking Soda
1/4 t. Ground Cinnamon
1/8 t. Ground Nutmeg
1 pinch of salt

Crumb Topping: 2T Room Temp Butter, 1/4C Brown Sugar, 3T Flour, 1/3C Chopped Walnuts. **I made mine w/o the walnuts.

Take a round 9-inch pan (square is fine too) and coat the pan w/butter, then sprinkle the pan with flour - this process helps your cake form a really nice crust. If you don't have the time, just make sure your pan is well greased.

In a medium bowl, sift and combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and set aside.

In a large bowl beat the room temp butter until pale and fluffy (about 10min) with an electric hand mixer or standing mixer. Gradually add the sugar a half-cup at a time and beating for at least 5-min in between (to keep butter mixture light and fluffy). Add the eggs and do the same, beating for at least 5-min in between each egg. Next add the vanilla and sour cream (or buttermilk) and beat for another 5-min. Now you can add the mashed bananas and just mix until incorporated.

Gradually add the dry ingredients slowly and in sections, while mixing at medium speed. **When I add the dry ingredients, I usually start out mixing by hand first and then turn to my electric mixer so I don't get flour all over myself

For the crumb topping, mix the brown sugar, walnuts and flour in a small bowl and cut in the butter. Mix with a fork or just with your fingers until you form course crumbs.

Once all your dry ingredients are incorporated into your mixture, pour the batter into your prepared pan and sprinkle the top evenly with your crumb mixture. Bake in the oven at 350F for about 55-min to an hour or until a toothpick or chopstick comes out clean from the poke test.

I would say to wait at least 30 min to cool but that's always a bunch of bull so ENJOY

Apparently today is National Homemade Bread Day, but I doubt I'll be eating any.

Hey naga -- don't let next year pass you by, homemade bread is super easy:

"No-Knead" bread (actually, minimal kneading bread)
3 cups flour
1.5 tsp salt
1 packet yeast (I think that's .25 oz?)
1.5 cups liquid (I used about .5 cup beer, 1 cup water)

Rest 4 hrs, fold over a few times, rest another half hour.

(Substituted 1/2 cup rye flour, added currants, pecans, and caraway seeds. Very fragrant, but like all these breads, seems to need lots more salt. )

Leostar, those noodles actually look really good to me. I love thick, chewy noodles.
