Spider-Man

So it looks like instead of a Spidey 4 we're gonna get a COMPLETE Spider-Man reboot. With Sony getting rid of the entire team behnd the last 3 Spidey movies, I'm not sure how this will bode for the franchise.

From what I've read and heard, Sony wants the new film to focus on Spider-Man in his high school settings. Although this isn't a bad thing I'm wondering what else will change/stay the same. One thing I do hope is that they return the geek/nerd factor to Peter Parker. While Sam Raimi did a great job in bringing Spider-Man to the big screen, like most fanboys I was annoyed that he made Peter Parker have organic web shooters. It's understandable to say hey how can he get all of these good things and none of the bad but did Raimi forget he was making a comic book movie?

LA times says it was Raimi that walked away.

I hope Cameron picks it up.

I highly doubt Cameron as he'll be to involved withthe Avatar sequel. 3-D is likely as pretty much everything is headed in that direction.

what's crazy about it all is that Raimi said the $230 million budget was not enough to make the movie with his vision. It's surprising that Sony would greenlight that much in a day and age of falling box office revenue. Spider-Man 1 was made for $140 mill and banked $400 domestic, whereas Spider-Man 3 cost $258 Mill and only bankd $300 mill domestic.

I think that if they're going to put this back in the high school realm then they should definitely get input from current Ultimate Spiderman writer Brian Michael Bendis.

Bendis? That means the next movie will be entirely composed of Peter and MJ sitting around in a room just talking with each other.

Hahahaha, good point. The thing is I don't want to see a Gossip Girl/Beverly Hills 90210/One Tree Hill version of Spider-Man on the big screen. Bendis was able to grasp that angst that it seems Sony is trying to go for. IF he combines what he did on Daredevil and Ultimate Spider-Man that'd be a real good flick.

From geek tyrant:

Quote:
Still up in the air is who will direct and who will be the new web slinger. Rumors will start on a new Peter Parker soon enough, but there are two great names being thrown around for possible director's already. (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb is being talked about after previously being in discussions with Sony to take over Moneyball. That job went to Bennett Miller, but it might work out for the better if Webb lands the Spider-Man franchise -- Webb wanted to make the horror film The Strangers, after losing out on that gig he took on (500) Days... I think it worked out better for him. If you've seen his feature debut in (500) Days then you know Webb can masterfully depict male issues in a smart, funny, honest and realistic manner. If you're worried about his non-action background, keep in mind he has a slew of music videos under his belt that would show otherwise.

Another good name who's expressed interest is Seabiscuit director Gary Ross, who had worked on one of the drafts of Spider-Man 4 and is said to know the ins and outs of the comic book series. But a name that is causing some fist clenching on my part is Transformer director and professional pyro-maniac Michael Bay. He expressed interest in taking over the franchise in the past, but there is no word on whether or not he's still interested.

Cameron would still do it better. He said Spidey is the only comicbook superhero he would make a movie with. Sony still owns a treatment he did back in 91, i think.

Sony would most likely raise their budget as well if Cameron took it on.
