You don't have to reload a machete.

You mentioned 'how-to' books. I've been thinking about this for a couple years. It's a fantastic idea. I'm going to go to the lye-berry and pick some books on gardening, vitamins / minerals, water filtration and so on.

I am still doing this half-hearted. Maybe because it's too psychologically over-whelming. If shit does go down, strangely enough, the two things I'll miss the most will be coffee and beer. I know how to make cold-brew coffee (toddy) which isn't so water intensive as any other method. I might still have coffee. In which case I'll just have to learn to make moon-shine.

In which case the system shut-down will be long, arduous and handleable. Assuming that to be the case then the signs will be clear and a person or group will have time to react. Which would mean that, if you can read the signs, you'll be able to deal with things and get through with a little less food and a few less showers.

I think the light at the other end will very likely be a stable society and not utter chaos. I'd like to participate in the former.

I cannot speak for anyone but myself . . . so . . .

Guns, in my interpretation of the 2nd ammendment, are about tyrannical governments and revolution. I don't anticipate going to D.C. any time soon. That and I'm terrified of them. That and I like that phrase I heard on the TV show Lost: "Live together / die alone." I'd rather build community than kill someone if worst comes to worst.

That said, I don't expect full-fledged shut-down of the continent. I expect bullshit to happen. I expect shortages. Power outages. Services cut back or cut off. No schools (think about that). Limited militarized Police. Strangely enough I expect an exodus from Los Angeles. Most of the people here are hispanic and have families down south. I think they'll go to their families. Not all at once, but over time. Mind you, this will not be the whole population of hispanics or anything, but I expect several thousand to say, "Fuck it - my family in Guatemala is more important to me than this crap." I have a couple of friends that will go back to the mid-west when they think things are going to go into full swing. I expect to see what happened during the fall of the U.S.S.R. in Los Angeles; bullshit that will be temporary and lame. Crime will go up. Riots will happen. But the solution is never more violence. The problems will, I think, mostly stem from lack of food and water. Solve those problems and you solve most of the worst of the crime / violence. Hence - no guns for for me.

I forgot to add tubes, tires, cassettes and chains. Streets are bad and won't get repaired (the petrol will be used for food) and so streets will chew up tubes, tires, cassettes and chains. That single-speed mountain bike is starting to look good. Disc brakes might be a good call. Hard to replace if they're out-of-stock, but they last a while.

A few months ago this thread wouldn't have gotten a single post. You guys are the shit. Thank you, I'll have a bug out list soon because at the mo I am making lunch. I just couldn't keep in my excitement.

The girlfriend and I are actually going to be attending a class at The Public School in Chinatown on the practicalities of Revolt with a side or survivalism thrown in.
You guys should check it out!
