Bullpups

Bullpups allow for a standard barrel length (shortened barrels shoot with less muzzle velocity) in a shortened package. With bullpups you get a short, carbine length weapon that maintains the muzzle velocity of a standard length rifle. They're good when compactness is desired.

In traditional rifle designs the stock is located directly behind the action; in a bullpup the action is located in the stock itself and the trigger mechanism is relocated to a more forward position. Since the trigger is so far forward it requires a longer mechanism to operate the action. The long mechanism retards trigger "feel" and is generally less reliable.

Most bullpups do not have very good reputations. The Steyr AUG is about the only decent bullpup off the top of my head.

These days I dig weapons more from a design standpoint than based on their functionality or purpose. Think the bullpup configuration is pretty sweet looking. I've had a few Chinese long guns for 8+ years and am now actually looking to get rid of them. They are great "workhorse" guns. Super solid. Gun collecting as a hobby is kind of a dead end though. After you've put a few thousand rounds through them, there's no mystery to it. Simple physics. And a lot of $. Concentrating on creating art these days. That being said I think I'll keep one around just for safety's sake

Man, I remember paying a mere $70 apiece for those Glock 33 round mags in the "good old days" when you could still get neat stuff. They skyrocketed to about $200 after the high capacity magazine ban went into effect in 1994. Shoulda bought a bunch more for trading/investment purposes...

cool..thanks for the insight, i can really picture it in my head..like virtuous, id say im more interested in the design of the guns rather than utility, which brings me to my next question about the p90, how the hell do THOSE things work..if you dont mind hehe

In The Replacement Killers, the guy was just holding it like a regular ol' briefcase while firing it off.

It would be embarassing if you took the wrong briefcase. The stale ham and cheese sandwich and pickles inside don't have enough velocity to induce trauma and death.

I always liked those Olympic-style guns with the super-ergonomic wood-carved handles. When I was 6, my uncle bought me a replica Walther P-38 in HK that shot little plastic bullets. I had to leave it behind.

I used to read up on Punisher Armory all the time. Boys and their facination with violent toys. But I've never actually handled a real gun.

True, but firing it like that would only allow you to spray rounds all over the place. The guys in the second and third picture are demonstrating the proper way to fire the MP5 briefcase if you have a real target.

Ha Ha i was going to bring up the same point. Gotta love the Punisher Armory. I still have a few issues back at my parent's house.

I've always wanted to learn Close Quarter Battle (CQB) with a MP5.
I'd also like to learn how to snipe, especially with a Barrett .50 caliber.

i'm from texas...

but i don't personally own any guns. however, my parents own an arsenal. growing up, they would always be doing the firing range / competition thang. my parents had a wall in the house lined with trophies and plaques, mostly ones that my mother had won. the last time i saw my mom fire a gun was to shoot up a snake in our back yard. with my dad, he was shooting at some kids who were stealing our bikes, running down the alley.

my parents also built a lot of their own shit and made their own ammo. i remember helping out a lot when i was atleast 4 or 5 years old - messing with melting lead, powder, primers, shells, etc. and making our own bullets and stuff. in second grade, i brought some bullets and lead and shit to school to show for show-and-tell. my teacher took me outside, told me to put the stuff back in my pockets and never bring it back.

i'm surprised that i didn't grow up all trigger happy and shit. i shot a bird in the wing once with a daisy bb gun and felt really guilty (even though it flew away). guns ain't for me. i'd shoot a motherfucker if i had to though. if i packed one, it wouldn't be a good thing. i tend to have people talk shit to me when i'm minding my own bidness.

Well, growing up with firearms tends to de-mystify it all so you shouldn't be too surprised...
