A bar in Yotsuya neighborhood of Tokyo, there’s a bar called Vowz that’s actually tended by serious monks. There’s chanting, there’s sermons, and there’s just advice doled out. Pretty cool concept and you can get drunk in front of a monk. Odd and fun story. (NPR – Monk Bar) Read more about the bar here in Metropolis Tokyo. It’s explained that it’s part of the Jodo Shinshu Sect which is common and allows for drinking and women.

Yao Ming played NBA basketball, retires, goes to college, owns a basketball team, and is now starting a wine company. This wine will end up being $280 when it comes out next year. We just reported on Wine Futures in China, and now it’s Yao Ming in the game. It’s weird how it’s a 2009 wine with no specific photo except of a generic grape field.

= That’s Dave Stolte at Cut and Paste 2010 from my blog post. Dave Stolte won the international Cut and Paste design championships and is now embarking on his pet project, “Home Bar Basics (and Not-So-Basic)” book that he’s writing and illustrating. Watch for his site that’s upcoming at homebarbasics.com. It’s obvious that Stolte gets his drink on, but at the same time is finding a way into a project. “…this project is an attempt at that, and a melding of lots of things I’m interested in: design, illustration, writing, print, education, service, and booze :)” Stolte heads up his own multi-disciplinary design studio, Wexler of California, and even contributed a piece, Silver Robot to the Robots Exhibition at Giant Robot 2 currently on display.
