Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

Roger Ebert is in at HIFF. I've heard this is his favorite film festival of them all. Although he can't speak now, he writes a storm and causes controversy from time to time via his twitter and blog. Games aren't art. Meh! I think they are! But that's the tiniest percentage of a disagreement I'd have over his career. But overall, he's done a great service for film criticism. Imagine how many people want to be like him? Everyone?! And the coolest thing is the guy defended Better Luck Tomorrow at Sundance which became net news, and also wrote a book about rice cookers and using them to make all kinds of food. That's nuts and he has time to have fun too. See his blog here

Cool shot. That’s at the end of the night. Meatbun Game Night 3. Drizzly, but still fun, Game Night 3 was an all out war of gaming. From Super Meatboy projected in HD to Typing of the Dead on Dreamcast, to Street Fighter, gaming outdoors on Sawtelle is hard to beat. Meatbun featured the Ouendan style Giant Robot shirt which you see at the bottom of the photo below. Giant Robot is also proud to be carrying Meatbun shirts in all locations. The LA one has them now, SF soon!

That's Richard Sayer AKA French. Am I allowed to say his name? He's curated a show of his own at Scion! It's tomorrow and it should be fun. But at Giant Robot we have Meatbun Game Night 3! Big Time. There's a lot to do, and a lot of fun to be had. Come down to Giant Robot. His show will be fun, and he's a nice guy, but ours is too and the Meatbun guys are just as nice. But if you're in SF… yeah, don't forget about the GR table at APE. Yes, tons of greatness, and then hit up the rad art show that's perfectly timed and themed, Removable Pants, with Marc Bell, Jason Thompson, and Jason Mclean.

We do. I'm proud to tell anyone that we're offering prints by some of my two favorite artists. Chiho Aoshima and Takashi Murakami. As I was looking back, here's an older blog post that has photos of both of them. I met both of them somewhere in 2001 and now years later, they blew up. Chiho now speaks English, and Takashi has shows everywhere. Check out the prints meanwhile. It's almost like a time capsule art show with pieces from many “generations” of Takashi's work.

It seems so simple. A sandwich board sign with letters on them. But it's surprising how not easy it is to apply vinyl letters sometimes. Either way, this little Banner-style sandwich board sign is for Giant Robot San Francisco. Like the little robot head above the O? I did that on the fly. I hope it lasts a little while. Take a pic with it. Actually the first person who does that and sends me the pic, I'll send you a gift. Meanwhile, don't forget APE + Removable Pants after party art show at Giant Robot. And at least show up with pants on, and if you want, take 'em off.
