Giant Robot Store and GR2 News
I’ve been stockpiling some food photos, so I’m going to let a few loose. This is home made “nabe”. It’s been hot in Socal, so I’m not sure if this is the right call… but it tastes great. It’s fairly easy and goes a long way. The key is to get the right ingredients. The chicken meat ball (tsukune) is the key. If you don’t have something like that, you’re doomed. This is the standard type, there’s no curry, kimchee, or anything like that. Below you can see that I use magazines as the cushion and splash guard. Flame on! Tokyo 7-7 in Culver City. Simple breakfast that’s so good. This was a weird call. Kay and Dave’s in Brentwood. These are lamb tacos.

Jessica Sanders. Had some ice-tea and found out that directors with films have something like 20TBs worth of external hard drives. She told me about her latest film projects, and they all sound good. Feature narratives here she comes. The ahi sandwich at The Library Ale House. This is myself being interviewed by Daniel Wu for the CAPE event. Drawing by James Jean. Notice he even drew by sparkling water bottle. See the T-shirt the kid is wearing. Super 7, probably bought at Giant Robot. Painting by Joe Hahn and Jeff McMillan. It’s Smurfs doing nasty things to each other. David Horvath’s Turtle! Thanks David for the nice gift.

These are nice. Military-esque, grey, removable patches like a real bomber jacket. The stitching, the laces, the inside Agent Orange, orange. The real jacket patch is a nice tough. Branding that you can’t miss, all in a shoe that’s under $100 retail. Converse are never that expensive, so all this falls in line. Thanks Converse for sending a pair. I’ll rock these for sure. Velcro, the forgotten favorite. Using that military font… Consistently orange. One day, we’ll get to make a shoe that I could wear daily. I like the back. The fabric with the pattern is nice.

Yes, I spoke right after, but George Takei is bad ass. He mentioned that giving hugs can lead to swine flu, but I hugged him anyway. His talk goes across the map and he mentioned Gene Roddenberry and even plugs the new Star Trek. If I could be as cool as George, then I’ll be lucky. The conference seemed like it was aimed at the future artists of Asian America… well, that means America. My part of the talk, was basically to show what we’ve done, how pop culture counts, and how being part of the rest of the world matters. Photo by Thomas Nakanishi

Interviewing filmmakers is a fun job actually. Even when you have to do 20 of them! That’s my gig for the directorschairsite.com. I brushed up and memorized the films of each person and had to formulate questions pretty much on the fly. I’m not sure if this is second nature or not since in the end, I feel like I’m doing a pretty good job at it all without knowing that much about each film. I don’t get to preview 20 films or anything like that… so, I do the best I can. I’d like to see others do this. I’ll bet they’ll flounder. Above is Anna Chi who did Dim Sum Funeral. 24 year old Mark Tran helmed All About Dad. A first film Curtis Choy, a soundman, and over all rad dude has a film who’s name is super long. Manillatown in the Art (Time Travel with Al Robles). His subject passed away yesterday according to many sources. I hope his family and Curtis Choy are doing alright.
