Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

That's a check for $300 and a wood plaque for the tournament winner of the 4.5 division. Last weekend, my cousin Jon took the prize. First place in a tennis tournament. Yes, he's probably better than the guys in the tournament and he won. It's fun to watch him win with a counterpunching style. Most guys are trying to hit the crap out of the ball and my cousin Jon getting everything back with pin point control. The runner up and cool enough to be in the photo with his $150. Still not bad.

The booth may look fancy from a far, and even up close, it all looks great. But do you realize how much is packed into a 10'x20' space? It's 360 degrees around which means you need staff everywhere. There's goods stored under the tables, on the middle shelves, and there's even over stock in the vans we use to get down there with. Oh and there's cardboard boxes. All of what's not sold and everything we buy there needs to get packed up again. So here's a little tour of what you see and may not see. From the booth we see things go on. We're watching you as much as you are watching girls in tights. We're also watching you as a possible thief. We do get to say hi to friends. That's DJ Neil Armstrong on the left. My friend Emily on the right. Even from the side, it looks like this. Just people standing around manning a booth and helping customers. But then under the booth, people are eating! Look at the size of the sandwich! No food or drink can go on the top shelf! Drinks, food, lunch, juice, candy, and a fake bottle of JD. Yeah it's ice tea in there, but we want to look like Slash from GNR, so we have it around for photos. Pringles are easy chips to eat in a booth. That's my camera bag on the left so I could shoot photos like these that will probably make some of you who are in them, mad.

The video is finally posted. This is Breathing Underwater – the Scion art project I was asked to do. It's a mere one minute and it came out fun. The music by Goh Nakamura blows me away. It's him doing arty Beach Boys stuff. Since then, I've learned a lot, got a nice trip to Brooklyn, and had the odd honor of being considered an artist myself and even travelled as one. This is where we talk about it. Scion Installation 6: Video – Eric Nakamura & Saelee Oh Interview from Scion ART on Vimeo. Also the old post about the actual experience of going to the opening.

That's Jillian Tamaki. I interviewed her today as a part of her panel discussion. She was invited to Comic Con by Comic Con which is the ultimate honor and her panel was today. I didn't know enough about her to be honest, but I worked it as much as I could. She speaks confident and strongly and it made my job easy. I just asked a few questions and then opened it up to audience questions. She does have a new book with Drawn and Quarterly that's a mix between art and quick comics. I also missed the eye socket stabbing that happened today at a panel discussion, but it sounds scary that a person would stab another in the eye with a pen. KNAC's DJ Will digs Comic Con. The vest he's wearing is well over 20 years old. Here he's holding a Little Bony!

David Choe signed Munkos and Chronicle book for two days now. It was a blast seeing him looking tired but still commanding a long line that spans well over an hour, nearly two. I'll have to say he's a great sport to do this for us, and it helps us a lot. He hasn't done a comic in years, but can still be as important as anyone else to his fans. Below, I signed my first Big Boss Robot. Me sign a toy? I've been seeing it happen around me for years, but I guess I got the chance to do it finally. Making the toy is really one of my childhood goals, along with publishing a magazine, and a few other goals, and now it's finished.
