Giant Robot Store and GR2 News
David Choe's Munko Whales brought people out. Signing number two comes up later today. Here's some images of Munko's first signing. I think David was half asleep. He also signed a bunch of his new book. Comic Con brings everyone out. I'm thankful and he does it again today. The booth is looking good meanwhile and we have David Horvath tomorrow.

I can only type a few thoughts since it was a day that began at 10am, and lasted until after 9pm. It's not the longest of days, but it's a day, that took a lot of energy, running around trying to set up a booth, but then at the same time, trying to figure out the tiniest logistics that'll affect other things in larger ways later. Know what I mean? We were tired and we didn't get to eat from the AM until 10pm. That might have hurt us more. Either way, the guy above is the first to purchase the entire Big Boss Robot set. He got a free cap (not the one he's wearing). I was honored for his patronage.

This past weekend at GR2, we conducted a signing with sisters, Laura Ling and Lisa Ling. I had to introduce them without much planning, and I kept it simple. But I could have offered a few insights on the book and I didn't. But if you haven't read it yet, know that the book isn't only a tale of being incarcerated and charged in North Korea. That's the obvious part. So it's one part true crime. The next? The writings flip flop from Laura to Lisa and back. What was Lisa doing to get help get Laura out? What did Laura think was going out in the USA to help her out? Finally, the third part? Romance! Iain below is Laura husband who wrote letter after letter. He may not being signing books, but he gets some props. You can also read about Laura Ling's experience in Giant Robot 66. I interviewed her there.

How can anyone ever get tired of seeing these? This is another Smithsonian spot. Air and Space Museum is amazing. I had an hour or less to kill, so why not just walk around in here. Although some of these have to be repros, many look definitely space tested. The history of our space travel is outlined here, but the bigger story is looking at how cheap some of this stuff looks. How could these have broken through the atmosphere? It seems impossible. I was looking for some kind of acknowledgement for Laika the dog, who although isn't American, perhaps should have been in this show. There were plenty of Russian space displays, but no Laika. If in DC, I'd definitely check this out.

The Munko Whales. Here's some pics I shot and composited. We'll be selling these at Comic-Con and onwards. There's 12 types, it's blind box, and they're quite amazing. $11 each. They're not a normal tiny blind box, these are bigger and super nice. The rough looking ones are a flat matte finish. You can practically feel the texture on them. (Well, you really can).
