When we posted the visit during Bale’s Chinese film promotion, people criticized our own critique of Christian Bale. Yes, was it a promo for his film? Perhaps. Has he mentioned the dissident since? No. Yet, Chinese Dissident Chen Guangcheng is now free. He escaped by the hands of helpers however his family is now under attack as retaliation. What will he do now and where will he go? The problem of coffee shops everywhere. Lingering customers who aren’t spending. It’s happening in China. Imagine, holding a coffee cup with the Starbucks logo is a status symbol. It’s America’s huge coffee chain. In China, it’s expensive and what’s the next best thing if you can’t afford a cup? Hanging out in Starbucks. Meetings happen and people bring their own food, yet it’s a roaring start for a company that’s seeking to build a brand. (Reuters – Starbucks)

Where does one go if you’re Japanese, out of a job in manufacturing but an expert? Yes, China. That’s where a lot of technical experts can go find a second career to hopefully work and teach the great skills that some Japanese possess. Of course that comes with issues. There are 2800 Japanese in manufacturing town of Dongguan alone. “”From Japan’s perspective, emerging countries are getting a free ride of the benefits we nurtured. So yes, it is a problem,” said Yasushi Ishizuka, director of the intellectual property policy office at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.” Yet, jobs are jobs, people will follow the money to survive.
